Over the 2026 Easter weekend, tens of thousands of viewers tuned in to gawk the beginning of two bald eagle chicks hatching excessive in the mountains of Southern California. The eaglets belong to Jackie and Shadow, a well-identified bald eagle pair whose nesting shuffle has been captivating audiences for years. They teach us many lessons in resilience,” Jenny Voisard, media manager for Pals of Gigantic Bear Valley, informed Glimpse.
Two Bald Eagles Hatch — What Happens Subsequent?
The first chick emerged around 9:30 p.m. GMT on Saturday, April 4, 2026, adopted by a second chick early Sunday morning. The hatchings drew massive live audiences, with thousands watching in real time as the chicks struggled free from their shells — a route of that can take hours of effort and energy.
“I think of us were a little taken aback that they hatched so snappy. It’s an arduous route of for the eaglets to break freed from the inner membrane and outer shell of the egg,” explained Voisard to Glimpse. “The first eaglet hatched at evening on Saturday and 19,000 were watching live[…]. The following morning Forty five,000 of us watched chick 2 hatch on Easter Sunday.”
Although they hatched moderately snappy, the eaglets will develop up even faster, according to Pals of Gigantic Bear Valley. Bald eagle chicks develop at an astonishing pace, reaching near full skeletal measurement within about nine weeks. Earlier than they ever take flight, they’ll practice balancing and flapping inside the nest, gradually building energy for his or her first leap that’ll take place between 10 and 14 weeks after hatching.
“Now we watch them determine out how to eat and be siblings. Their first instinct is to compete for meals so they may bonk each other and fall on high of each other. Then they bond and develop up,” Voisard informed Glimpse.

Why a Proposed Trend May Place the Eagle Family At Possibility
Despite the success of Jackie and Shadow’s latest hatchlings, a proposed luxury housing and marina fashion less than a mile from the nest is raising critical ecological concerns.
According to a press release from the Pals of Gigantic Bear Valley, the undertaking targets an area identified as Moon Camp — one of the last remaining stretches of natural shoreline in the area.
“The enchancment will cause shoreline degradation, which means habitat destruction for fish and waterfowl and stress for birds that nest in the area,” explained Voisard to Glimpse. “Jackie and Shadow rely on that shoreline to perch and forage for meals so this may be harder for them to raise chicks. The noise and disturbance may cause them to leave altogether. There’s not always any more natural shoreline left but this.”
For now, viewers can continue to watch and celebrate Jackie and Shadow’s growing family. But, in worst-case scenarios, the upcoming fashion may force the pair away from the favored nest they’ve returned to year after year.
